Tips for planning the career

Career planning is not a difficult task, it is not something that you should defer, but rather is an activity that will give you a sense of liberation and fulfillment, giving you objectives that you can touch in your current career or plans for switch to another field. Career planning should be a positive experience, which will bring you more satisfaction.

We propose you to analyze a few tips:

Transform your career planning in an annual event
Many of us go regularly to the ophthalmologist or the dentist and do a lot of other things at least once a year, so why do you not include besides these career planning too? Find a day or a weekend once a year - or more often if you feel you need it or if you are planning a major change in your career – and program little time for yourself.

Try to avoid possible distractions, because the time you allocate to be exclusively for planning, to determine what you want in terms of employment and beyond. Transforming planning the career in an annual event, you will feel more secure in the elections and directions of your profession - and you'll be better prepared for the uncertainties and difficulties of everyday life.

Shape the route you've followed from the last planning of the career
One of the first things you have to set every time you do your career planning is to spend a little time on your outlined route you followed from your last planning. Although you should not necessarily focus on the past, reflecting on it and reviewing the steps that you followed will help you plan your future. Once you review your steps from the past, give yourself some little time to reflect on your direction - and write all the aspects of it. Are you satisfied with this direction? Could you have done some things better? What could you do differently? What can you change in the future?

Reflect on what you like, what your dislike and on your needs and wishes
Change is an aspect of life; we all change, and this also happens with our feelings. Something that we loved two years ago we can now fully dislike. Always give yourself time to reflect on things in your life that you like best - not only in terms of profession. Make a list with two columns of what you like and what you dislike. Then, use this list to examine your current job and the direction of your career.

If your job and career include many aspects of the column with what you like, then you're still on track; though, if your activities at work include aspects of those mentioned in the column with what you do not like it is time to begin to take into account either a new job or a new career. Finally, give yourself time to think about what you want or need at work. Do you want to make an important change in this world? Do you want to become famous? Do you want to become independent from the financial point of view? Give yourself time to think about the reasons which lead your happiness and success.

Examine your preferences in terms of entertainment and hobbies
Career planning includes also the examination of the activities that you like to do when you are not working. It may sound strange to examine the activities that are not related to work, in the stages of planning the career, but it is a necessary aspect.

Often, hobbies and the ways you spend your free time can provide you useful information about career and its possible route. Do you think you can not have a hobby and a career? People do this constantly. The painter Paul Gauguin was a successful businessman that painted on the shore of the sea and who became a painter through an artist that he admired. That was when he decided to change careers because, although he was a good businessman, what he really liked was painting.

Examine past achievements
Most people do not keep a record of professional achievements and every time they search for a new job they are faced with the difficulty of creating their CV. The analysis of previous achievements - an obvious keep of them - is not only useful for creating a CV, but also for career planning.

Sometimes, reviewing past achievements will unearth forgotten successes, one or more, which can give you your starting point of research and planning a career change, so as to get a job that allows you to design things that make you the most happy and proud.
